Bali?

Uluwatu, located on the southern tip of the Bukit Peninsula, is known for its epic surf, dramatic coastal views, and boho-chic beach clubs. With white sand beaches, clifftop sunsets, and a slower pace, it’s the ideal spot to unwind or kick off your Bali trip in style.

Why Choose Uluwatu?

If you're choosing between places like Canggu, Ubud, or Uluwatu here's why Uluwatu stands out: it’s all about surf, scenery, and serenity. While it’s less crowded than Canggu and more relaxed than Seminyak, Uluwatu still has plenty to offer from beach bars to temples. It's a favourite among surfers, couples, and travelers looking for a peaceful yet stylish stay.

Where to Stay in Uluwatu?

Want ocean views and beach access? Stay near Padang Padang, Bingin, or Suluban Beach. These areas are close to the best surf spots and cafés. For a quieter, more luxurious experience, head to the cliffside villas near Uluwatu Temple or around Nyang Nyang Beach. Uluwatu has everything from surf lodges and boho bungalows to luxury resorts.

How to Get to Uluwatu?

Uluwatu is about 45 minutes to an hour from Ngurah Rai International Airport (depending on traffic). The easiest way to get there is by private taxi or airport transfer. Grab and Gojek are sometimes limited in the area, so plan accordingly.

How Long to Stay?

Uluwatu is perfect for a 2 - 4 night stay. That gives you time to beach hop, watch a sunset at Single Fin, catch a Kecak fire dance at the temple, and just relax.

Best Cafés and Restaurants in Uluwatu

This area may be chill, but the food scene is on point. A few favourites:

  • Suka Espresso – amazing breakfast and coffee

  • The Cashew Tree – healthy bites in a lush setting

  • Single Fin – the iconic clifftop sunset bar

  • Warung Local – budget-friendly Indonesian food with great flavor

  • Mana Uluwatu – sunset views, stylish setting, and great cocktails

The best places to stay in Bali

What to Do in Uluwatu? (My Top 5 Picks!)

  1. Watch the sunset & Kecak Dance at Uluwatu Temple

    • This clifftop temple is one of Bali’s most iconic sights — especially at sunset. Every evening, just before the sun dips into the ocean, you can experience the traditional Kecak fire dance: a mesmerizing performance of chanting, rhythm, and storytelling with the Indian Ramayana as its base. Book tickets early — it sells out fast.

  2. Surf or relax at Padang Padang Beach

    • Tucked between limestone cliffs, this beach is a favorite for surfers and sun-seekers. It has clear water, white sand, and a chill vibe — the perfect place to swim, lounge, or watch the waves.

  3. Beach hop around Bingin, Thomas & Suluban

    • Each Uluwatu beach has its own character:

      • Bingin is peaceful and scenic, perfect for lazy beach days

      • Thomas Beach is great for a quiet swim

      • Suluban (also called Blue Point) is epic for surf and exploring the sea caves

  4. Sip cocktails at clifftop beach clubs

    • Wind down with a drink and ocean views at iconic sunset spots like Single Fin, Ulu Cliffhouse, and El Kabron. Come for the vibe, stay for the view.

  5. Explore hidden viewpoints & Nyang Nyang Beach

    • Hop on a scooter and discover Uluwatu’s cliffside gems. Hike down to Nyang Nyang Beach for a secluded experience, or find a secret viewpoint at Karang Boma Cliff for unreal photo ops.
