Practical matters
Currency
In Bali, the official currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). While some tourist spots may accept major credit cards or even foreign currencies, most everyday transactions — especially in local markets, small shops, and rural areas — require cash in rupiah. ATMs are widely available, and it’s recommended to carry small bills for daily purchases, as many vendors may not have change for larger notes.
To travel to Bali, most international visitors fly into Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar).
Once on the island, getting around is easy thanks to local transport apps like Grab and Gojek. These apps work similarly to Uber and let you quickly book affordable rides, scooters, or even food delivery. They are widely used across Bali and are often cheaper and more reliable than traditional taxis.
If you prefer more freedom, you can rent a scooter or car to explore Bali at your own pace. Scooters are especially popular in areas like Canggu, Ubud, and Uluwatu, offering a flexible and budget-friendly way to navigate the island’s narrow roads. Make sure you have an international driving permit and always wear a helmet, as traffic can be hectic and police checks are common.
For longer trips or group travel, renting a car (often with a local driver) is a safe and comfortable option, perfect for covering larger distances between regions.

Visum
In Bali (Indonesia), most travelers need a visa on arrival (VOA) or an e-visa if they plan to stay up to 30 days. You can apply for the e-visa in advance via the official government website: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/. The cost is approximately €27 per person (2025).
Important: Before traveling, you must also pay the Bali tourist tax, which can be done easily via the Love Bali app or website. Additionally, travelers need to complete the electronic customs declaration in advance at https://ecd.beacukai.go.id/ to avoid long queues upon arrival. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months upon entry.
