Three things you need to know before your trip to Bali
Visum
When visiting Bali, having the right visa is essential. There are three main ways to obtain your visa:
-
Visa on Arrival (VOA)
You can get a visa upon arrival at the airport in Bali. Bring two passport photos and be prepared to wait in line — during high season, queues can last up to three hours. -
E-Visa via the Official Indonesian Government Website
The best and most affordable option is to apply online through the official government website: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id. The application process takes around 5–10 minutes, costs approximately €27, and often provides instant approval. However, processing can take up to five days, so we strongly recommend applying at least a week before your flight. -
E-Visa via Third-Party Websites
Be cautious when using other websites offering e-visas, especially those promising unusually low prices — some are scams. In the Netherlands and other countries, certain travel agencies can help you apply, but they often charge up to three times the official fee. Our recommendation: apply directly yourself to save money and avoid unnecessary risks.

Electronic Declaration form
All travelers must complete the electronic customs declaration form up to three days before arriving in Bali. This form asks what you are bringing into the country, such as the number of bags or specific goods. It also clearly explains what items are allowed or prohibited, helping you avoid fines or problems at customs.
The online process takes just 5 minutes, but if you wait to fill it out at the airport, it can take up to an hour. For travelers departing from the Netherlands, keep in mind: you won’t even be allowed to board your flight without showing proof that you’ve completed this document.
You can fill out the form in advance here: https://ecd.beacukai.go.id/
Tourist Levy (tax)
All visitors to Bali are required to pay the official tourist tax before or upon arrival (150.000IDR or €8,06). The easiest way to do this is through the Love Bali app or the official website. While you might not always be asked for proof at the airport or hotel check-in, be aware: if you are checked and haven’t paid, you can receive a fine and will still be required to pay the tax.
This contribution directly supports the preservation of Bali’s culture, nature, and local communities — so it’s not just a requirement but also a meaningful way to help the island.
